Seattle Area Traffic Congestion 4th Worst in Country

Yikes!  That is not a list you want to come in at the top of.  While the LA area has the worst traffic congestion in the country, our area is not far behind-and it's getting worse faster than anywhere else in the country. Sitting in traffic isn't just irritating for you, it's REALLY irritating to the environment. With gas prices on the rise (again? still?) take this opportunity to save some cash, time, and the environment.

Here are some more sustainable suggestions to getting around Redmond this summer.  All are guaranteed to be more enjoyable than staring at the back of someone else's bumper!

  • Metro's Trip Planner will give you door to door route information and times to help you plan your trip sans car.  You can put in the time you want to leave and arrive, and the furthest distance you want to travel!  Doesn't get much easier than that.

  • RapidRide B-Line provides quick, frequent service between Redmond, Overlake, and Bellevue Transit Center so you can play Angry Birds (or their bus game, blinepulse) while you ride.

  • Most of our region's traffic congestion is NOT on the freeway.  Jump on your bike to get your local errands done and stay out of the traffic.  About 40% of our trips are 2 miles or less-about a 20 minute bike ride.

  • Avoiding peak commute times will allow you to get places faster and with less time spent idling.  Idling cars aren't going anywhere, but they are spewing greenhouse gases into the air and harming our local air quality.  Extra bonus: the toll for 520 during off peak hours are less expensive.

This summer R-Trip will be rewarding those Redmond residents who are riding, walking, carpooling, and taking the bus.  By signing up over at R-Trip's website, or stopping by the Go Green booth this weekend at Derby Days Impact Eco-Fair, you can get all the details for leaving your car -and this congestion- behind.
