Derby Days Impact EcoFair Success!
Thank you all for coming out and talking with us about sustainability last Saturday at Derby Days! So many of you came through the Go Green tent to get your reusable shopping bag from Think Redmond, learn about the summer incentives happening with R-Trip, and to take the pledge to reduce your environmental impact with us.
We were thrilled to have so many of you take the pledge! Our office is beginning to feel like Santa's workshop with all the Eco-Kits that are stacked up getting ready to be sent out. (Expect your free Eco-Kit via snail mail in the next 3 to 4 weeks...all our reindeers are currently on vacation.)
Visitors to the booth that weren't Redmond residents were eligible to sign up for a free recycling kit with King County's "One Less Bag" Challenge. This challenge is to find ways to reduce how much trash your household creates by one less bag every month. More than half of what ends up in our landfill is easily recycled. Reducing the amount of waste you create helps save valuable resources like the energy it takes to make new products from virgin materials, the fuel it takes to haul it all away, and the greenhouse gases that are created when it decomposes in the landfill. Plus, you could save money on your garbage bill by shrinking your garbage cart size!
If you are new to the site, check out our great case studies of what folks in Redmond are already doing, get ideas to green your lifestyle in our community forums, and see what the city is doing to reduce our environmental impact in our programs section.
Thanks again for all you do to keep Redmond a green community! Together we are having big impact.
